The McCusker Brothers Ceilidh Band CD  (1954)  (£25.00)

This was a test pressing of 19 tracks, produced by 'Topic Recordings' featuring some of the McCusker Brothers 78s and 1950s BBC recordings, although it wasn't released commercially.
McCusker Brothers Ceilidh Band, Topic SP 102 is a rare and vintage release.

This CD consists of the band's 78s and some BBC recordings, presumably those made by Peter Kennedy in 1952.

Their music typically includes lively jigs, reels, and traditional Irish dance tunes performed with accordion, violin, drums, and bass. One example from the Smithsonian archives lists tracks such as “Swinging On the Gate,” “The Hare in the Corn,” and “Boys from the Co. Armagh,” showcasing their energetic and authentic style.

  • The Band: The McCusker Brothers Céilí Band was a family of 11 musicians from Kilcreevy in County Armagh, active from the late 1930s through the 1950s. They were a significant force in Irish céilí music, performing at major events and being featured on Raidió Éireann and the BBC.
  • The Topic Release (SP102 CD) refers to a specific copy release on the Topic Records Label. Topic Records has a long and respected history of releasing traditional folk music, including Irish recordings. While finding specific information on the existence of a commercially released SP102 CD featuring the McCusker Brothers is difficult, there's evidence suggesting Topic Records did consider releasing their music at some point. This is a private CD Copy transferred from a 12" vinyl test pressing - white label) No track details.
