Dad died in January, hearing my grandmother and father singing & my son playing his trumpet, accompanied by his sister on the recorder has given me so much joy - I have played them constantly since they arrived and one is playing in the background at the moment !

I have played two of the CDs this afternoon of the two records that previously had groove faults. I straightaway became involved in the Mozart 40 and was past the first fault point before I thought about it, but I was ready for the second point and detected nothing, and similarly with the Eroica I could not detect anything. I don't know what you found or what you did, but you have produced excellent results! Thank you.

I'd like to take the opportunity of thanking you once again for another splendid remastering service in converting Peter Hurford's Pachelbel organ works from LP to CD. Proves in my mind that Johann Pachelbel ought to be remembered as more than a 'one hit wonder' with his famous Canon and Gigue which supposedly underpins the catchy melody in Kyle Minogue's 'I should be so lucky' according to Pete Waterman.
The ability to reacquaint myself with this programme and Dr Hurford's choice of registrations and brilliant performance technique notwithstanding (now virtually distraction free plus the relative ease of individual track selection) makes one appreciate how far technology has progressed since the long playing record provided the primary means of sound reproduction.
That said I still find it absolutely astonishing that such a good Teldec DDM pressing and Decca's enviable international reputation in the field of sound capture and acoustic balance. Created from an early digital master tape such impressive results which only become truly apparent following CEDAR reprocessing. I would also not wish to make light your skilled contribution as audio engineer coupled to acute hearing which must always acts as the final arbiter.
I want to thank you for the outstanding improvement you have made to to some of my most difficult vintage vinyl recordings - I am absolutely delighted!
Just to summarise:-
A perfect result, you have managed to make the vocals more focused and the unusual orchestral detail is exposed so clearly, I think you have worked wonders!

I have finally just ended the listening of the 11 recordings that you transferred on CD and I have to say that the result satisfies me completely. Cassettes, in particular, won enormously in clarity and in dynamics. As for the LP, the sound is very good.

You transferred the content of my five 12" 78rpm double sided records from the early 1950's to a single CD - it has been a life-changing miracle for me!
The eight pieces of sacred music on these records have been unplayable for years...!
This is partly due to the difficulty of finding a suitable record player and partly because of the misery of finding and sharpening fibre needles. I also recall the music was continuous from one side to the next, sometimes broken up in the middle of a bar!

I have just received the re-mastered CDs back of my Dejanice/Giouanni LPs and the sound quality is exceptional.
What I didn't say before was that I do have a comparison disk for the Dejanice--a homemade probably second generation copy of someone's LP. The difference in sound quality is staggering, and a great credit to Shaw Sounds!
Thank you very much for the master CD made from my old "Voice Record" metal disc. I am very pleased with your results and like the rich warm tones of the spoken voice. How on Earth did you manage to track the stylus over those corrosion spots? Amazing !
I have two other discs - 'Calibre Auto Recording' records made in the 1970s. Both are of vinyl, play at 45rpm and are single sided. I tried to play one on my turntable but could get no sound from it. They do have recorded sound on them as they were played on other equipment in the past. I will send them to you today.

Many thanks for the conversion - the CD + our original disc came back yesterday. It turned out to be a recording of my wife's mother when she was a small girl - as she died a couple of months ago, it was a moving recording for us.

I spent ten years in the Hendon Band followed by a further ten years with the GUS Band (world famous at that time), where I played in many BBC Radio and TV recordings.
Each time I bought our tapes to you, starting about three years ago, I feared they would have deteriorated far too much for you to work with them and was prepared for the worst. However, with your expertise, including dusting most of them down etc., you fully recovered all the music from the tapes - not only that, but the sound quality was even better than we had ever hoped for.
Not only is our music and family get-togethers preserved, but we have so much more pleasure in listening to them, including in the car as we travel.
We look forward to making more visits to you in Romford, (stopping off at The 'Volunteer' on route), before our 'mission' is complete.

I would just like to say a very big thank you for the excellent reel to reel to CD transfer process.
Given that the reels were 40-50 years old and many were entirely unlabelled I had assumed that the quality of recovered audio would be poor and that there would be few useful recordings. My assumptions could not have been more incorrect. As part of my profession I work with audio recordings on a day to day basis and I can say without doubt that the quality of the recovered audio was astonishingly good. I was also very pleased that the number of useful recordings was far higher than expected, hence I am extremely grateful that I took the risk and asked for unlabelled reels to be converted as well as labelled reels.
The net result is that my family now has a window into the past that would have otherwise sat in a box and degraded over time. Listening to the audio has been an emotional and sometimes painful experience for myself and my family, but very much worth it. My mother (in her 70s) described the audio as "the best present ever", we last heard my fathers voice more than twenty years ago.
If you have a box of reel to reel tapes sitting in a box gathering dust I urge you to have them converted into a digital format and I would not hesitate to recommend John Shaw's exceptional service. The quality of the results and the speed of delivery both greatly exceeded my hopes and expectations.

Please find my cheque attached, in respect of the transfer to CD of my reel to reel tape of the Royal School of Church Music 1970 summer choir at Westminster Abbey. As we discussed, I was a young chorister in the choir and have had a reel to reel recording of one of the recitals for many years, although, regretfully, I haven't been able to listen to it for what must be about 30 years or so.
I was amazed at the quality of the conversion to CD and have listened endlessly to the recording, recalling every note from every line from every anthem as if they had been rehearsed only yesterday. Just a short line to thank you for your CD version of my Grandfather's record.
I was very conscious of the high noise level and low audio of the original scratched recording, but you have managed to make it not just comfortable but pleasant to listen too.
My cousin who had the original record said she and her daughter were moved to tears at hearing our Grandfather singing "Trees".
It was recorded almost sixty years ago before I was born and he died almost 40 years ago but I can recognise and remember the sound of his voice from this now.
It is a very valuable memento which I am copying to all the family and which includes those living now in Canada. It will be treasured and passed on down the generations I am sure.

It was an extremely emotional moment for me to hear something I had last heard some 40+ years ago with the clarity as if it was today, and the voices of people who are sadly now dead. I'm sure my mum will appreciate it for her 90th birthday, even though she is also likely to find it very emotional.
You've done a great job with the conversion - the whole conversation is now crystal clear. My grandfather passed away over 20 years ago and although we have many photographs of him it is really special to be able hear his voice so clearly on the CD.
The service was certainly rapid and efficient. More importantly the quality of the sound is amazing, not only have you been able to eliminate clicks etc, but the original analogue sound has been retained.

Many thanks for the CDs which have just arrived - they are all fine and it is a testament to the sound quality that you achieve that I have had so many done. They are absolutely superb and irreplacable and this project has filled a huge hole in our record collection. We have an AVI Laboratory Series CD Player, AVI Laboratory Series Integrated Amp and a pair of ATC SCM 20 Monitors so we are used to superb quality recordings.
Recently you converted an old L.P to a C.D for me, this L.P was of great sentimental value as it contained my Father singing at the Edinburgh Tattoo in 1967.

A huge 'Thank You' for transferring my old records on to CDs. I am absolutely delighted with them - I listened to them for hours yesterday when I received them. The Howell's School 78 records were made in 1952 or 1953. It was strange listening to myself as one of the soloists - I was the soloist singing to the harp accompaniment, - (and chorister) after all this time! Then, of course, the three records made in St. Clare's Convent School (1967, 1968 and 1970) were when I was the accompanist/conductor/Music Teacher!! - again very happy memories.
Last Friday I posted to you the contents of my Music Transfer Project. I assumed that I would have to wait patiently for a week or so before hearing the outcome on a CD.
I was absolutely astonished when your parcel safely arrived on the following Monday, all
complete and ready to play. Also, I discovered that there was no need to worry that new CD's could ever sound as good as the original vinyl, well yours do.
As one of your new and many satisfied customers, I think you perform magic using your knowledge and experience, not only to enhance our listening pleasure but also to enable record collectors, to limit the wear & tear on their treasured tracks.

I have now had the opportunity to listen to the CD's you kindly made for me and I am most delighted with the superb play back of the items you have transferred.
The vinyl transfers of organ music made some fifty years ago would appear to have been only made yesterday and that speaks well of your engineering skills.
The CD's of the 'Messiah' tape have also been carried out with much skill and the end result has brought back a memorable concert for my wife and I in a large Central Hall.
I have just received my first CD from you and I am more than pleased. I am astounded with the quality of your workmanship and the very prompt service you provide.
It is so thrilling to hear the sounds of the past reproduced to such a high quality, thank you very much.

.................I've just finished listening to the CD that you produced from my old reel to reel tape, "The Valkyrie Act 3". There's always been a legend amongst Wagner/Goodall fanatics that it was an exceptional performance. Now I know it is! Thanks to your technical wizardry I can hear it so crispy and full-bodied in sound. It's a stunning transcription! Many thanks for the very considerable pleasure you have made possible. The enclosed payment cannot begin to measure my gratitude.
The morning at work dragged slowly, with the CD's teasing me on my desk. Lunchtime came and I rushed out to the car to have a listen. Obviously I would not expect the end result to be in glorious technicolour stereophonic sound, especially given the state of the original mono recording and physical tape! Something about silk purses and sows ears?
However, I would go as far as to say the CDs reflect how the tape used to sound when the recording was first made, but "cleaner" - minus the usual tape induced noise. I can actually hear some of the lyrics now!!!!!!!!!!!
....AND you managed to get all the background noise preserved, just as I requested, without breaks in between the tracks. And if that wasn't enough, I was delighted to see the overall title and track titles on the CD and inlay - just to put the proverbial icing on the cake. Am I pleased with the result? YOU BET I AM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My verdict?
EXCELLENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Money very well spent as far as I am concerned. From your point of view, the bad news is that offhand I cannot think of any other tape or vinyl I possess that require the same treatment The good news is that: 1. If I find any I will come STRAIGHT to you.
2. If I hear of anyone else needs a similar service I will have NO hesitation whatsoever in recommending you to them. You might get the vague impression that I am singing your praises and leaping up and down in glee with my restored recording.
YOU WOULD BE RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you very, very much for a job well done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am delighted with the restoration job on those 3 LPs.
The story behind them is as follows:-
In the Early 60' four of us from a special forces unit (not SAS) were on a 9 month tour somewhere in the Middle East. When one of my colleges got his hands on a record player and 5 records which he played constantly, the 2 vocal ones we used for target practice (Poor Ruby Murray). The 3 Percussion records we buried in the sand while he was sleeping. I was the last of the 4 to come home to the U.K. so I dug them up and brought them home as I am meeting the only other member who is still alive at a reunion shortly I will have them played at Dinner.
